Plants and Animals
The Dessau-Wörlitz cultural landscape shows plainly that natural conservation and the preservation of listed monuments complement each other and are in no way mutually contradictory.
Like we see in the Warning Alter, one of the oldest listed monuments in Germany and most aptly named, found in Wörlitz Park nature and art should both be protected, thus finding a combination of the beautiful and the useful. The habitat "Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm" meets this fundamental concern.
With its lavishly expansive meadows, its solitary trees and the significant park complex, the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm is a biotope of immense importance, which forms the habitat for many species of animal in addition to botanical and artistic accents.
Interaction between the consciously designed Garden Realm and the protection of animals is not always without conflict. For example, a beaver, a protected species, influences the park design with its nutritional habits and above all its style of building and must therefore be kept away from relevant areas by means of suitable nature protection measures.
